Former Terps Get Playing Time In Pre Season
Baltimore, MD-- Football season officially kicked off in the state ofMaryland Thursday night as the Washington (Largo) Redskins took thetrip up I-95 to face the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens won the game, but we must keep in mind that it is pre season. Both coachesacknowledged that this was an extension of training camp. There werequite a few players on the sidelines wearing team warm ups, includingAlbert Haynesworth, but the players in uniform were fighting for jobs. Three of these players are just months removed from The University ofMaryland.
Kevin Barnes saw a lot of playing time as he was onthe field for most special teams plays and about 3/4 of the defensivesnaps. Barnes will need to work on his speed and strength to improvehis chances. Although he got beat on a touchdown, he showed that heknew the plays very well. On special teams he was receiving doubleteam attention which he fought off pretty well. The fact that heplayed such a big portion of the game maybe a good sign for Barnes.
EdwinWilliams played the second half of the third quarter and all of thefourth. He was in with Colt Brennan and the third string line. Williams was moved from center to guard and played very well. Williamsshowed he had the play book down and the physical skills to play in theleague. Brennan was flushed from the pocket a few times, but Williamsside of the line was not the issue. The 'Skins played two centers onThursday and Williams did not snap the ball once. It will beinteresting to see where he ends up and at what position.
ScottBurley came in with Williams and played right next to him at hisnatural tackle position. The long time team mates did a nice jobhelping each other out with the blocking for Brennan. Burley lookedpretty good during his time. He was listed 5th on the chart at righttackle, so this upcoming week of practice and the next game should helphim.
We will be keeping a close eye on the former Terps playing nearby. Check back for more training camp updates.
